How to spot a fair free-to-play game
Most mobile games are free to download, and that word 'free' is doing a lot of heavy lifting. The real question is how the game plans to make its money from you.
The first thing I check is whether there are energy or life systems that force you to stop and wait. Some games cap your play at ten minutes unless you pay or watch ads. That's a design choice built to frustrate, and I don't have patience for it.
Ads themselves aren't evil, but frequency matters. An ad after every single round is a red flag. An optional ad for a small reward is fine and fair.
Then there's the shop. Cosmetic-only purchases are honest. Purchases that make the game meaningfully easier, or that you basically need to progress, tip a game into pay-to-win territory.
A genuinely fair free game lets you enjoy it fully without spending, and treats the option to pay as a bonus, not a toll booth. Those are the ones we happily recommend.
